About The Global Fund for Children

Founded in 1994, The Global Fund for Children envisions a world where all children grow up to be productive, caring citizens of a global society. We pursue this goal by making small grants to innovative community-based organizations that serve some of the most vulnerable children and youth. We complement our grantmaking with a dynamic media program that highlights issues affecting children and celebrates the global society in which we live.

We made our first grants in 1997, using proceeds from our first book, Children from Australia to Zimbabwe. Since then, with support from many generous donors and the earnings from our books, we have awarded over $21 million in grants to nearly 500 grantee partners in 78 countries. Today, the Global Fund for Children Books collection includes more than 25 full-color books for children from infancy to adolescence. Our books depict the diversity and similarities of children across the globe, and purchases of our titles help support our work with vulnerable children.

Our Philosophy

The Global Fund for Children has developed an impressive collection of books and resources to teach children to value diversity. These books and resources can help children develop the knowledge and skills that are necessary to work and live comfortably in a global society.

The development of each Global Fund for Children book is influenced by three guiding principles:

• to present positive images and stories of children
• to promote cultural diversity
• to foster global citizenship

These books integrate children’s perspectives and inspire young readers to explore diverse cultures and global understanding. Children learn to respect differences as well as appreciate the values and commonalities that bind us together as human beings.

Our Publishing Partnership

Since 1997, The Global Fund for Children has partnered with Charlesbridge Publishing, a for-profit children’s book company in Watertown, Massachusetts. We continue to work with Charlesbridge while forging new partnerships to develop and distribute more high-quality books to children.
